You Have the Ability to Initiate Change
Sometimes we underestimate the power of our actions when we strive to make a positive impact. Each of us holds the potential to foster meaningful change through good deeds, kind words, and passionate pursuits. Even when faced with opposition or skepticism, you have the right and ability to act. This might manifest as standing up for a person, supporting a cause, or advocating for a situation you believe in.
A Personal Journey of Advocacy and Growth
I am Dr. Angela K. Chambers, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of The Greenwood Beat - WFPG. This station is notable for being Oklahoma's first woman-owned radio station on the historic Greenwood Avenue in Tulsa. Reflecting on my life, I often find myself in challenging situations, knowing God guides me through them. As a child, I questioned, "Why me, Lord?" and felt the answer was simply, "Because I know you will give me the glory."
One pivotal moment in my life was when I secured a job at a new clothing store in my hometown. Initially thrilled by the opportunity, especially my competitive zeal for signing customers up for store credit cards, my excitement quickly waned. I discovered a coworker was exploiting customers' credit information for personal shopping sprees. This unethical behavior, which involved retrieving receipts from the basket to make fraudulent charges, infuriated me. It was wrong, plain and simple, and could have affected anyone, including my family or someone I had helped sign up.
Determined to do the right thing, I reported the misconduct to the store manager. His lackluster response was disheartening, as he showed neither concern nor urgency. When nothing changed, I escalated the issue to the corporate hotline. Unfortunately, this led to my termination. As a single mother of four daughters, losing that job was a significant blow.
In time, justice prevailed. The dishonest employee and the store manager were both terminated, and the employee faced theft charges. Though I lost my job, I realized that my actions had contributed to a greater good. This experience underscored the importance of formal education and training, which I pursued to create new opportunities for myself.
The Power of Education and Faith
Despite the challenges, I remained encouraged, believing that God was guiding me toward my true path. My educational journey was lengthy, but it ultimately led me to earn a PhD in Business Administration. Throughout it all, I give the glory to God for providing the strength and purpose to persevere.
Encouragement for Others
Be encouraged that you, too, can initiate change. Life may present you with difficult situations, but they often serve as catalysts to propel you forward. Trust in your journey and embrace the opportunities for growth and learning. Remember, your actions hold the power to make a difference, even when the path seems arduous. Trust in your ability to create positive change, and you will undoubtedly succeed.
